Case Study 1

Chris Townsend (Script reader/Coverage writer)

When I first started working with Chris, he expressed some concern around how he might get jobs as a script reader given his lack of experience in the field. Reading between the lines, what I could pick up on was his competencies – his brutal honesty about what was positive and negative and about scripts he had read, his ability to zero in on their minutia, and going to any lengths to make something as good as it could be. Without knowing much about the industry at this stage, all of these assets I immediately knew were exactly what any script writer wanting the best for their project would be looking for. Looking further at his resume, it became clear to us both that there was a wealth of experience – competitions, acting and academic eduction, a personal love of film and television – which just seemed to blend perfectly with the industry.

Part of my research into the field involves assessing other bios. A picture can tell a thousand words, and a photograph I came across captured what I intuitively felt was most essentially prized in this industry. The image was of a script reader, script in hand, in a state of hyper-focus, while the director eagerly awaited their revised considerations. This level of connection to both script and other creative professionals I knew then would be something to channel into any stand-out bio.

After just one draft, Chris was able to work with what I had provided, and tailor to his own needs. Delighted by my honing in on his assets, he was beginning to recognise these were really the embodiment of the photograph above, a future professional scene in the waiting. He was able to integrate the content into his newly formed website and begin contacting potential clients with increased confidence and professionalism.

Testimonial

‘Writing an enticing site bio is always a tough prospect, positioning yourself just right as to not under, or oversell. Tony took the information I provided and by using a select combination of short, dynamic word choices immediately elevated the information and material, providing me an engaging and snappy springboard with which to greet my website visitors. A collaborative individual, Tony allowed me to edit his work, to tailor to my needs all whilst retaining his creativity and insight, I couldn’t have done it without his time and talent.’ (Chris Townsend)
